USCIS has announced that it is extending to 18 months the time during which an I-751 receipt notice may be used in conjunction with an expired conditional permanent resident card to evidence continuing permanent resident status. The prior policy only permitted receipt notices to be used for 12 months, after which conditional permanent residents were required to schedule an InfoPass appointment and request a temporary passport stamp. InfoPass appointments are now extremely difficult to get. The new policy took effect on June 11, 2018.
USCIS’ announcement states that all I-751 receipt notices issued on or after June 11 will include the 18 month extension notation. USCIS also stated that it will re-issue receipt notices with the 18 month duration notation for all previously filed Form I-751 petitions (or, presumably, waivers) that were pending as of June 11, 2018.
